Statewide Advisory Committee Purpose: The advisory committee member shall represent the voice of people receiving mental health services and their families by using their experiences encountered in the course of treatment and in their daily lives to contribute to mental health and disability services policy and planning in the state of Iowa. The committee member will provide information to people to help them obtain accurate information regarding Iowa’s mental health services. The committee member will provide feedback on the efforts of the OCA staff and their advocacy efforts by reviewing the reports and recommendations developed by OCA staff for the Iowa Department of Human Services.
The committee member will help the OCA in its outreach efforts including attending local conferences and setting up a resource table. The committee member will also help by presenting at meetings about the OCA. The committee member will also help to hand out resource cards and flyers locally. This will help the OCA to be able to reach all MHDS regions. All materials for conferences, meetings and for resources will be provided by the OCA. The OCA will cover costs of the conference with prior approval and travel mileage is reimbursable at the IRS rate.
The advisory committee members shall reflect with as much diversity as possible cultural, racial and geographic differences. The OCA is seeking representation from each of the 14 MHDS Regions. The total membership will be 19 members. The advisory committee will choose its own chairperson and vice chairperson.
The advisory committee members will attend the four meetings by year either in person or via telephone. The travel mileage is reimbursable at the IRS rate expense forms will be provided at the meeting and need to be turned in. Meals will be provided if meetings cover a meal time.
